🌟 1995 - Greg Louganis Tells His Truth

Olympic gold medalist Greg Louganis came out publicly, becoming one of the first major athletes to be openly gay. A four-time Olympic gold medalist in diving, Louganis showed the world that queer excellence and athletic greatness go hand in hand. His courage opened doors for every LGBTQ athlete who followed.

🌟 1939 - A Pioneer of Queer Theater Is Born

Playwright Doric Wilson was born in Los Angeles. He would go on to become a founding figure of LGBTQ theater, co-founding TOSOS (The Other Side of Silence), the first professional gay theater company in New York City. Wilson proved that queer stories belonged on stage, told by queer voices.

🌟 1982 - A Pie in the Face of Bigotry

At the annual Bible Baptist Fellowship convention, televangelist Jerry Falwell was hit in the face with two fruit pies by a protester pushing back against his anti-gay crusade. Sometimes resistance looks like a march. Sometimes it looks like dessert.

💡 From the Olympic podium to the theater stage to a very well-aimed pie, February 24 reminds us that queer people have always shown up boldly, in every arena.
