Giving
Where the money goes.
The Queer Year Book is built on the work of people who kept our history alive, often at real cost. This page is how the book gives some of that back.
The Commitment
Ten percent of my author royalties from The Queer Year Book goes to LGBTQ+ organizations and queer artists.
I want to be honest about what that means. Royalties are what I actually receive from each sale after printing and retail costs, not the cover price. So this pledge is calculated on real money received, not a number that sounds better than it is. When you buy the book, a piece of it keeps moving.
Current Recipients
This is where the money goes right now. The list is built to grow.
One Institute
Los Angeles, CA
Founded in 1952, One Institute is the oldest active LGBTQ+ organization in the United States, dedicated to telling LGBTQ+ and HIV/AIDS history through education, arts, and social justice programs, in partnership with ONE Archives at the USC Libraries.
Know an organization that belongs on this list? Tell me about them.
Queer Artists
Part of this pledge goes to direct support for queer artists, and I'll share those details in the annual update.
Updates
I review recipients once a year and will post donation totals on this page annually. The first update lands in early 2027.
If you found this page through the back of The Queer Year Book, you're holding the reason it exists. Thank you.
